Why it is the most important skill to learn?
One billion people need to reskill by 2030. This is because of the jobs transformed by technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. And by 2022, 42% of the core skills required to perform existing jobs are expected to change.
Specialized interpersonal skills will be in high demand. These are skills related to sales, human resources, care, and education. As the world is facing a reskilling emergency, the most essential skill to acquire in our new digital age is learning. Rapid technological change will make current jobs obsolete. And so is your learning. Lifelong learning is an essential skill that applies to every industry. You are continually seeking new knowledge. This is making yourself more valuable to your organization.
How to acquire it?
Two things set intentional learners apart from everyone else: a growth mindset and a curious mindset. Let us talk about a growth mindset. Carol Dweck, a psychologist at Stanford University, created this theory. Dweck observed why some children rebounded from failures and setbacks while others are not. Through years of research, she created the theory of a growth mindset. It is a belief that we can cultivate our skills and qualities through effort and perseverance.
Learning something new, something challenging, sticking to things—that is how you get smarter. You believe that you can develop your abilities through hard work. And this is possible through strategies and lots of help and mentoring from others.
Now the big one, having a curious mindset. This says it all. And you will learn whether is it online or face to face. Period. Take for example you are curious about American Culture. American lifestyle/culture interest you. You will acquire knowledge through self-motivation. This curiosity will be your motivation to learn different American sounds. Curiousness is an essential skill to have to develop lifelong learning.
Overall, being curious and a growth mindset will set you apart. This is what a lifelong learning is being about.
